Patchwork in Perspective Quilt

I finished this wall-hanging just before Christmas - keep forgetting to take a decent photograph of it for the blog though!

The quilt was started last summer at a Lynn Edwards workshop on "Patchwork in Perspective".

EQA Picture Exchange

The European Quilt Association (EQA) had a picture exchange this summer where people selected a photograph as inspiration which was then divided into a right and left half. The quilters then had to make 2 small quilters 20 x 40cm (approx. 8" x 16"). the right half of their own picture and the left half of a randomly assigned partner.  I received this photo from my Dutch partner Jopie which was of a tree.  Jopie's inspiration photo. I spent a lot of time mulling over how to make this piece and eventually ended up making this piece using hand-dyed and rust-dyed fabrics. I then used gold and copper metallic paints with my own thermofax screen prints of bark and tree branches to capture the impression of the tree bark and stark branches from the photograph.  The Dutch quilters had an exhibition of their EQA quilts over the weekend, and my EQA partner Jopie sent me on a photo of the two quilts hanging together.

Spring Growth Quilt on exhibit

My quilt "Spring Growth" is currently on exhibit as part of the Mid-West Branch "Branching Out" Exhibition. The exhibition is on in the Old Benetton Building on the corner of Henry Street and Sarsfield Street and runs till Saturday 23rd April.

Journal Quilts

The C ontemporary Quilt Group of the British Isles run a journal quilt project every year. This year I decided to join in, so I'll be making a small quilt every month. The journal quilts  have to be 8 x 8" square, the only rule this year is that each quilt has to contain a line that runs from one side to another. I've also decided to use up my leftover workshop samples and sample pieces for my journal quilts. I keep finding interesting bits and pieces that never got finished or completed, so this will be an opportunity to use them up. Here's Journal Quilt no. 1. Snippets of organza etc. were laid on fabric, free-motion stitched and then the soldering iron was used to distress certain parts. I satin stitched a few thick lines to the quilt. Journal Quilt no. 1 I have a few other journal quilts almost finished, just need to complete the bindings!
